Why we built Clerk
Most small businesses can’t afford a full finance team, so the books slip — until tax season, a loan application, or a board meeting forces a scramble. Off-the-shelf accounting software helps, but someone still has to operate it. We thought it should be the other way round: the work should get done for you, and a real accountant should stand behind it.
Clerk keeps your books current, closes your accounts every month, prepares and files your returns, and answers your questions in plain English. The software does the heavy lifting; an ICAN-qualified controller reviews the exceptions and signs off the close. You get finished books you can trust — without hiring a finance department.
Built on Faxter
Clerk is a Faxter product. Faxter builds AI co-workers for small businesses — software that does the work a company would otherwise have to hire for. Clerk is the finance co-worker.
