Clerk handles some of your most sensitive information — your bank data, your filings, your numbers. Protecting it is part of the job, not an afterthought.
Encrypted, end to end
Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Sensitive credentials and secrets are stored encrypted, never in plain text.
Least-privilege access
Access to your books is restricted on a need-to-know basis with role-based permissions. Only the people working on your account can see it.
Read-only bank connections
Bank connections are made through licensed financial-data providers and, where supported, are read-only. Clerk does not move money on your behalf.
Immutable audit trail
Every accounting action — by software or by a person — is recorded in an audit trail that cannot be silently altered.
We never train AI on your books
We do not sell your data and do not use your financial records to train third-party AI models. Your books are used to serve you.
A human signs off
An ICAN-qualified controller reviews and attests to your close. Material accounting outcomes are never left to automation alone.
How your data is protected
We encrypt data in transit and at rest, isolate each business’s data, and apply role-based access controls so that information is only available to those who need it. Access is logged, and accounting changes are written to an immutable audit trail.
Bank connections
When you connect a bank account, we use a licensed financial-data provider to retrieve your transactions. We request the minimum access required and, where the connection supports it, that access is read-only. You can disconnect at any time, and we stop retrieving new transactions when you do.
Privacy and your rights
We are the data controller for your personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA). We do not sell your data or use your books to train third-party AI models.
